Laura Luna's Kidney Fund
Laura Luna's family and friends are uniting to help with medical expenses and surgery recovery time.

Miracle. Once word, that says so much. Visual artist and sculptor, Laura Luna was diagnosed with end-stage Polycystic Kidney Disease a few short months ago. For the sculptor, whose father died just as he tasted American freedom of the same condition, this was devastating news. As is Laura’s way, she responded fiercely and elegantly. Betsy Mullins, her colleague, friend, and neighbor, responded optimistically and lovingly. No sooner had Laura announced the diagnosis than Betsy had done heaps of research on the ins and outs of organ donation. Over the past two months, these two women joke about being family have discovered that they are a near-perfect genetic match; more closely linked biologically than many blood relatives. This match makes it possible for Betsy to donate a kidney to Laura and for Laura to accept. Laura Luna and Betsy Mullins met nearly a decade ago as co-workers at Arts for Learning, an arts-in-education nonprofit that brings artists and their gifts to preschool, school, and after-school programs throughout Miami-Dade County. Their backgrounds could not be more different….Laura, Cuban-born sculptor, daughter of political prisoner, with thick curly black hair and green eyes. Betsy, Ohio-born, South Carolina raised, with long blond hair and crystal blue eyes. Both are miraculous human beings. Your contribution will make it possible for this incredible life-saving act to take place.
